EarthEar was formed in 1999 to create a catalog of releases that offers a diverse introduction to environmental sound art. Our first four titles were warning enough that EarthEar was not "nature sounds as usual": a double-disc immersive journey into primarily natural soundscapes; a CD-length composed piece, centered on layered field recordings with several sections of extremely varied musical responses to the natural voices; a book of short essays on listening and sound-making; and a collaborative project recorded around the world on a single day, featuring nearby nature and urban/suburban sounds. Finally, in our third year, EarthEar released not one, but two more traditional "nature sound" discs, both focusing on rainforests; still, these were unique as well, one being the long-awaited "purely nature" followup to one of the largest-selling nature/anthropological titles ever (Ryko's Voices of the Rainforest), and the other a fund-raising effort to support a small but important Conservation International primate preserve in Brazil.
For the rest of our first decade, EarthEar continued on this eclectic path. While the styles and content of our discs have been far from predictable, the underlying commitment to world-class recording technique and highly individual creative interpretions has created a consistently reliable level of quality and profound listening experiences.
In order to better serve those of you with more particular tastes or desires, we've created several themed EarthEar Collections, available only via direct sales from EarthEar. We are pleased to make these collections available at reduced prices of $10 or less per disc. Orders are filled weekly, with payment via PayPal, where you can either use your existing PayPal account, or submit a credit card payment without joining PayPal.
